Greetings from beautiful Seward Alaska! For some reason or another I always find myself interested in hobbies that take place in the kitchen.
I learned how to cook in a German resturant. And although I have always had a knack for baking I never really went crazy with it. Instead I spent my time in the kitchen working on my thriving bath and body business. Even though I was "baking and cooking" with lye and essential oils it seems to satisfy my need to create masterpieces in the kitchen. Then the opportunity to move to Alaska came along. After much careful planning and arranging I found myself in a tiny cabin on the side of a mountain, overlooking the beautiful Resurrection Bay in Seward Alaska.
The kitchen was a far cry from my huge victorian kitchen in Kansas. Knowing full well what I was getting myself into I sold everything soap related before I moved up here. I came up with 2 suitcases worth of things. One for my son and one for me. Everything else of ours, except for a family trunk, we left behind. My new digs were tiny and primitive to say the least. No running water, no sewer. But it wasn't long before I adapted and could shampoo/condition my waist long hair and still have water left to shave my legs all with the water contained in a small pork rinds bucket. Glamorous no but the beauty long outweighed the hardships.
During my dark long winters in the tiny cabin I emerssed myself in baking. Always trying to out do the limits of my primitive kitchen. My kitchen was my home. No matter what part of the country I was living in.
I have since moved from the tiny cabin and now live in town with all the normal facilities. And all though I don't miss the outhouse, I do miss the quiet days spent looking out the window into the forest and forgetting that the rest of the world existed.
My new found love of baking has continued in my new in town kitchen. I am continuing to grow as a cook and a baker and thrive on challenging myself so that I can continue to grow.
